The hardness of diamond gives this sharpening steel its superior abrasive quality. If you keep your knives sharp then one or two strokes will be sufficient to re-edge your knife after each use, but this steel can also revitalise the dullest of blades.
Although diamond does not wear out, the diamond dust will eventually be removed from the central pole due to the abrasive nature of knife sharpening. Worry not, the Global G-38/R replacement diamond pole will slot right into your existing sharpener's handle.
